Our Story
While producing plays under the banner of 'Abhijaat', director Akash Bhadsavale felt the need for a robust organization that could handle various facets of theatre and facilitate diverse experiments in the realm of music. As 'Abhijaat' was a sole-proprietorship theatre entity, it faced certain limitations. Recognizing these constraints and aiming for broader horizons, 'SawaaiGandharva' was established.
Our Legality
The SawaaiGandharva organization was established under the name 'SAWAAIGANDHRVA ENTERTAINMENT OPC PRIVATE LIMITED' and is one of the rare entities in the theatre sector to hold MCA registration. This rarity exists because the government does not accord the status of a 'business' or 'industry' to the theatre sector; consequently, most commercial theatre-producing organizations operate as sole proprietorships. While some registered organizations exist—formed under the Societies Registration Act or as public trusts—they were not established with a commercial objective. Very few theatre business organizations are legal companies or partnerships established under MCA. One of them is SawaaiGandharva.
Our Strength
Many distinguished artists have honored us by showcasing their talents in the theatrical and musical productions produced by and presented by SawaaiGandharva. These artists—and the affection they hold for us—constitute our true strength.
